Centennial Invitation
For the centennial reception of the Republic of Turkey, a seeded paper invitation with gold leaf print was produced for diplomats in Mauritania.
Background
On the centennial of the founding of the Republic of Turkey, the Turkish Embassy in Mauritania wished to send a special invitation to all diplomats for the October 29th Reception. The search was for something beyond an ordinary protocol invitation — an object carrying meaning, symbolising the Republic’s vision and a century of accumulated history.
Approach
Seeded paper sheets produced from recycled papers were chosen to embody both sustainability and the idea of renewal. Each invitation was completed with a gold crescent-and-star motif applied through traditional gold leaf printing. The seed’s return to earth and the permanence of gold — two materials narrating the Republic’s centennial journey on a single surface.
Outcome
The invitations reached diplomats serving across the country. To have been prepared by a hand rooted in that country’s cultural heritage, on the occasion of its most significant anniversary, made this project not merely a commission for Lart Works, but a matter of honour.
